When the editor does finally arrive, it had better have the ability to put civilizations in their historically *correct* starting points. I, for one, really wouldn't like starting out in Greenland as the Americans.

Less for more
What really irks me is when I bought Civ III, I discovered the Mac version was about 20 bucks more (Cdn) than the PC CD. Then I find out the PC version has an editor and the Mac doesn't. What's up with that? A higher price tag for an incomplete product? I'm getting sick and tired of getting gouged by these crooks who cash in on the popularity of former game releases and rush a product to market before it's even debugged or complete. They seem to be in such a hurry to make money, they don't really care about potential dissatisfaction and alienation of previously loyal customers. Screw 'em! The editor is an interesting dilemna. The choice we faced with the Mac version was ship it when the editor was complete (which it still is not) or ship it when the game was complete. Either way, someone was going to be upset, and the decision was made (wisely IMHO) to not wait for the Mac editor.

Will the editor — when it's finally completed — be released as a separate product from the Civ III game, or will it be included in copies of the game made after a certain point in time? Or will we have to download it? Or will it be attached to an expansion pack of Civ III Mac?

It'll be a separate download. If MacSoft decides to remaster the CD for another print run, they might include it then - I don't know. As for expansion stuff, that's so nebulous right now that I can't even begin to guess.
Brad
I imagine it's possible that the download size will be reasonable, too, thereby negating my thoughts above.
One more question: I understand that Firaxis is working on a patch right now that gives the players the ability to toggle "lethality" on bombardment units. Will that be released by Westlake in due time as well? And it'd be really nice if Firaxis fixed the editor so players can create historically-accurate civilization starting points on Earth maps ... any word on that, Brad?
Glad to see you're popping in at Apolyton again, BTW. Thanks for replying.

The download will be relatively small in size.
Any future patches will be done as free time in our schedule permits. I have no clue what'll be in future patches until about 3 days before they go final on the PC side. In fact, I usually find out from apolyton or civfanatics.com first.
Brad
Just to add a little pressure, how well Civ III Mac is supported will be among the factors in my impending decision on whether or not to acquire an $1800 iLamp 800 mhz Superdrive machine. Then toss in another $100 or $150 for a good printer.
Really, though, Brad, thanks for keeping us Mac folks at 'Poly "in the know."
