Your XP crashes "2 or 3 times a week" so certainly recreating it wouldn't be a problem if you weren't BSing.

If it is true you're having all of those problems with XP, something is seriously wrong. Did you contact your hardware maker's technical support or MS technical support?

That's actually an extremely good point. One word about Airport, though...it does cover some rather large houses glonky said it couldn't...the range extends through rooms as well, don't know how that could be a problem. Although for the purposes of arguement that can't be easily proven and is thus fairly worthless, I'm actually being as truthful as possible personally when I say Apple has accomplished what it set out to do with Airport and more.

You can EASILY prove my argument. Take your airport device a floor or two away diagonally across the house, transfer the file. I CAN'T prove yours because no one else is having those problems. Anyone can recreate the Airport one.

Are you kiddin? I barely have internet access at the moment. Nor do I have much hard drive space left for this sort of thing, but that's another story.

Dell's technical support is rather lacking on the matter. I've downloaded all the garbage on their site I was told to, and that's about it. As for MS technical support, nope. They'd just want me to send the useless error report. It apparently contains my IP address, something about my privacy, and a file from a TEMP directory. Whoopie.

Well, if you weren't acting like a bumbling idiot I wouldn't have said it though. When you present things like "A Pentium 4 is just an overclocked Pentium III" as fact, when it's nowhere near being accurate, I believe I have judgement to laugh and make a silly comment that the person. That's not what I was doing. I'm trying to post about the topic at hand, it's actually you who comes in and makes entire posts attacking me about my "personal" attacks (Which amounted to Wiglaf, who doesn't count, and me calling you a bumbling idiot for getting a basic thing completely wrong).

I still don't understand why Wiglaf doesn't count... but that's between you and him... and if you look, my post wasn't just supposedly attacking you for your attacks, since you replied to more than that.

I've found that's how most Mac users end debates. They can't actually debate the topics, so they slowly get into personal attacks and ignore the debate to the point where the mods close the thread. You realize that means I win, right?

No, you don't understand:
Where would you physically mount those drives? There's no space in the standard cases...

When I can-o-aired my case just a few weeks ago there was a nice big space for at least one SCSI drive next to my ATA one... and space on top of my ATA one for another one of those... I could have up to four ATA ones if I wanted... can't remember how big a SCSI is so I can't say for sure on that count.

So why don't I start making sarcastic remarks about your "need" for a "nice" looking case and OS? Isn't that one of your arguments for the Macs? "They look nice"?

I actually have yet to make any "need" for a "nice" cas and OS to my knowledge... I like the handles... but I also like my cousin's tower (yes, admitadly for the extra drive bays) but just because I can't get everything I want from one OS or another doesn't mean that I'm suddenly saying one is better than the other... as has been pointed out often... they're different.

You can try this for yourself. Put your airport thing on one level of the house, take your notebook up a level or two and try transfering a file. Look at the speeds: It's about the speed of a 56K.

I have... if you didn't read those posts about me and airport... maybe it was because the network at the school sucked, but I didn't notice anything... even once out the middle of the parking lot with my laptop... I didn't notice a drastic speed difference.

Wiglaf's can't be backed up by any means without a memory dump.

In your mind... though I'm curious about responses to some of the other things I mentioned that you didn't address.

I don't care about typos, everyone makes them.

I appreciate that understanding ... there's been many a time in message boards that I've been mocked simply because I write with fractured sentences or typos... and if I ever do that, flame me, please.

Just because something is higher priced doesn't mean you're actually getting what you pay for. That statement implies that because Macs are usually more expensive than PCs, you're getting more. That's why it's false. A better statement would have been "You get what you want to pay for".

Oh, I know that thinking is whacked out and false... we're currently having a debate on campus because my school charges less than the other area schools and so they think because of the "you get what you pay for" thinking that they should raise tuition to match the other schools and therefore raise enrollment... but the fact remains that that thinking exists in many areas, weather we want to admit that it does or not.

If you're going to compare Macs to a high priced convertable, tell me why Macs are slower these days (until the G5 is out). Car analogies suck, it's a pet peve for anyone in computer science.

Every single argument I ever see from the Mac user perspective is "We like it so we use it". Fair enough, more power to you.
But these days they certainly aren't superior to what you can get in the PC platform. That will probably change when the G5 finally comes out.

Well, for Mac's sake, I hope so too... you realize not all of us stay with Macs just because they're "pretty." I grew up on a Mac... my kids will grow up on Macs... it's cheaper for me to upgrade the software I have (or to use old versions) and buy a new G5 than it would be for me to go out and build myself an AMD computer with XP... had I grown up on Windows, I'd probably be on your side of the fence, but a lot of us have invested so much into Mac that to suddenly change sides would be more costly than to switch to AMD... and I'll probably be one of the few Mac users to admit to that one.
I could rant on the negatives of Macs as well (like having to wait for the Civ3 port, or better yet, the Vampire: The Masquerade port... that finally came out... but you haven't made a convert, Asher, you've simply met somebody who was born into the Mac world, and likes it enough (even through its failings...much like Windows fans with their computers) to keep with Apple and Mac.

The reason why most PC users give you a hard time about it is because they look at the cost of the system, and could easilly configure a PC system for about half the cost. It just boggles our mind how somebody can pay so much more for a computer just because they prefer how it feels, many of which don't know you can make Windows feel like a Mac too with themes...

I've heard the theme arguement before... *shrugs* but I think I answered why I stick with a computer system that is more costly... a lot of it does have to do with how the computers feel... the elitism of using a Mac over a Win-tel. There are fewer of us, so if in our mind that makes us better, then we're going to think it! Even if to Win-tel users think otherwise... you'll never convince me to give up my Mac... nor will I ever convince you to give up your PC... maybe a better comment from me would be: if you want to talk over the pluses and minuses about Mac vs. Win-tel... find a group computer science majors and let them all hash it out... you won't get whatever you seem to be looking for here.
