Mac version on IBook... resolution requirement?

A friend of mine recently bought the Civ3 Mac version, and is unable to run the game... apparently because the IBook has a resolution of 800x600 . Is there a workaround for this problem... or is he SOL?

You should be able to go to the apple menu, control panels, and monitors & sound (or just monitor on OS9). Then select a higher resolution.

What video card's in there? Is it a newer iBook or one of the original models?
