  • Dips and Spies not working in my MGE on OS 9.1

Any one else ever seen this? The Dips and Spies can bribe units, but they can not establish embassies or otherwise "attack" a city. I installed this on my iMac DV (400MHz/320 MB RAM) to initially try out MGE on OS X running in Classic. Everything seemed okay initially, but I had a game where the Dips wouldn't work. I thought it was a fluke and pretty much ignored it. I haven't played Civ in a LOOOONG time, so tonight (trying to get back in Civ mode) when I could reproduce it twice, I thought uh-oh. While I do have OS X installed, I'm starting up and running in 9.1 for most things including Civ.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Think I might have a corrupt installation (I am running the current patch)? I'm thinking about whacking it and reinstalling it to see if it helps.

I can't see why 9,1 would cause it.
have a look at the unit tags in the rules.txt

    should be

    Diplomat, Esp, 0, 2.,0, 0a,0d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 6, Wri, 000000000000010

    Spy, nil, 0, 3.,0, 0a,0d, 1h,1f, 3,0, 6, Esp, 000000000000011
The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu

Thanks. Good suggestion, but no dice. The Rules were correct. I think I'll try reproducing this problem a couple more times.

Yeah, just do a reinstall. Save the saved games, of course, and you've got nothing to lose. Little things like this (technically speaking) have happened to me in other games, so I'm sure a fresh copy will help your computer.

        If not let us know.

            argh

I'd do a risk free install (everything backed up). Nothing to lose but a little time, and it might even work.

Thanks! Now that I'm back from Chicago (went for a wedding - I escorted/"gave away" the bride! ) it time to go out and celebrate!

Isn't Chicago great? One of the best cities in the whole country, and right now I'm looking at the baseball a little more - go cubs!

The problem's quieted down, right? If not, think of it as an added challange to the game, if you've mastered it already. And if civ just won't cooperate, you've got a birthday to celebrate and a civ3 to preorder.
