The scout continues to plod slowly through the fungus. I almost lost my temper thinking that he wasn't taking the situation seriosly and should be proceeding with greater haste, but a personal inspection of the fungus (which grows right up to the edge of the base) convinced me that he was proceeding as best he could.

I've ordered a new research initiative. See if there is some way to distill something from the fungus to soothe my nerves.

The scout reports first contact has been made with the indigenous life form the colonists are calling "Mind Snakes" or some such. But upon reading the detailed report, it turned out the little guys are only a couple inches long. I chastized the unit commander for wasting his time on this nonsense when I had ordered him to find a new source of raw materials. The responsibility of command hangs heavily ... something my underlings don't seem to understand.
