I want to try multiplayer...how and where?

I have been playing civ iv for 2 yrs...logged in plenty of hours...now i want to go to next step and play against ri's instead of ai's. I have been searching for a while but could not find what i am looking for.

You probably should have posted this in the Civ IV Multiplayer Forums:

There are many ways to play Multiplayer games. You can go to GameSpy and pick up a game there.
You could post in the MP forums here and maybe meet up with people to play a Direct IP game, PBEM, or even Hot Seat games. Check out the forums... there are always games in progress and people willing to play.

If you want to try MP then civ4 is the way to go right now.
