  • Still problems with Patch 1.2b

    Hi!

I have still the low on memory problem with 1.2b.
And: At start it says, it needs 150MB Ram, but finds just 80. I have 96MB Ram and Virtual Memory on. (I set the preferred size to 150). Does it not recognize the Virtual Memory?

    TIA,
    Dani

From what you have said here you shouldn't really have a problem. Did it work prior to the 1.2b patch? Presumably it did?

I have asked my contacts at westlake for a little information on this matter.

      Hi!

Yes, before I had the low on memory problem after I played long and usually after GlobeSat. Before just one time. Sometimes the game crashed, sometimes it saved nevertheless.

Then I can report two minor bugs (one is just cosmetics): When I build two cities near to each other it seems to me that on the overlapping tiles nobody can work. I thought these tiles should belong to one of the cities. And the cosmetic: In the city-dialogue the icon for food is more a time icon.

        Here's the answer i got:

The dialog you are getting is informing you that CTP was not able to
get the full amount of memory it wanted (as indicated by the
"preferred size" in the Get Info window). To get the full 150MB, you
will need more physical memory or you need to increase your virtual
memory size to a level that will allow CTP to get 150MB. This means
your virtual memory setting probably needs to be about 170MB (150MB
for CTP + 20MB for the system).

Here's the complete rules for CTP's memory requirements:

        - CTP now requires at least 75MB of memory. If it can't get this
amount, the game will not run (you'll get a warning dialog).

        - By default, CTP will request 105MB of memory (the "preferred size"
in the Get Info window). If it can't get this amount but there is
still at least 75MB available, the game will run in whatever amount
of memory is available. In this case, a warning dialog will be
displayed to let you know that CTP is not running with the full
amount of memory that was requested.

        - If you have changed the "preferred size", the rule above still
applies. CTP will request whatever amount is in the "preferred size".

GEEZ! WHAT'S UP WITH THE STEEP SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS? Didn't the programers realized that the iMacs that were being sold at the time only came with 32 MB RAM? The graphic are cool, but they couldn't do it with less than 75 MB?

I 'll turn on the Virtual Memory and see what happens. (I have 96 MB, but the warning window is annoying, and I can't even have the Launcher loaded when the game is launched).

Well, setting Virtual Memory to 170 MB satified the games thirst for resourses - thus far.
