  • Any one play CtP?

The boys gave me CtP for my birthday and I was wondering if any of the Civ II folks I know play it. So do you and on what kind of machine? I loaded the game and current patch and it demanded 105 MB RAM! It initially seems to play on my 233mHz iMac with 96 MB physical RAM , but geez, that's some hefty requirements!

    Hello sweet Companion
I did it too. I've CTP since several time and it works correctly, without the patch, on my iMac first generation and 124 Mega Ram.
But I don't like that very well. I find it not bright enough (the screen I mean) and too little even with maximal zoom AND my glasses. So till now I find it less fun than our good old Civ2. So you ?

      MacUser:

I have C:CTP on my Macintosh hard drive and have played it perhaps a dozen times. The game is crappy and, as you found out, a helluva memory and performance hog. I've since switched back to regular playing of Civ II and the occasional Civ II Gold for scenarios.

The only bright spot with C:CTP is the fact that I got it free for helping Brian Nesse with beta-testing various patches to Civ II Gold. Still, though, its shine is nowhere near that of the Civ II series.

BTW, my system is an iMac 333mhz with 160mb RAM.

You and me both! It's too dark both visually and in terms of the character of the game. It demands too much system requirements (RAM, and MHz) and is way too cynical. I mean, what's up with the lawyers, televangelists, and other rather "dark" units? It seems to me that the developers spent way too much time playing with moving graphics and too little time on improving the Civ game concept. If it had not been a gift, I wouldn't own it and I probably won't spend a lot of time learning how to play it as much more than as a "newbie". The boys should've saved their money!
