The only problem (aside from a less than satisfactory server - now gone ) was freezing during the AI, especially when barbs appeared on my games screen. That problem has virtually disappeared (no more freezing barbs) with the 1.1.1 patch.

I have no major problems.Berzerker is very active and also manages well with cross platform games.
While I've never actually finished a game(not in my mind anyway) I have gone to modern ages. The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu

Guess it might be worth trying again...
Do you find it any different if there is a Mac host vs. a PC host?
Or are there any practical limits on the number of participants?
Most recent experiments (which failed) had PC as host and more than two participants.

I just started seriously getting into MP, and haven't had any issues with cross-platform games...in fact I don't think I've played a game with anyone who has used a Mac
A lot of the problems I've seen with TCP/IP cross-platform games comes from outdated software...Open Transport and things like that.
Another thing you might want to look at is your extension set. I've got almost all non-essential extensions turned off, and I know that helped in ending the "Error Type 12" errors I got the first couple times I hooked up.TheAppleGuy

thats a good point(maybe).PCs do seem subject to extension conflicts with some games more than MACs.Finding which one is a bit of a pain though. The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu

I'm having next to no problems playing with PCers. There are the usual episodes of people being booted, but that seems not to be platform-related. In fact, about the only other Mac player I play with seems to be Bez. And the freezing on the barb/AI turn seems to have lightened off too. Doesn't stop me holding my breath every time the buggers have their turn though.
Occasionally I have episodes of being unable to connect to a game. It happened one day in a diplo game which I'd never had any problem joining before. For some reason, I couldn't get past the Waiting For Others To Join dialogue box. Eventually, for the sake of the others, I had to find a sub to play that session for me. Next session, I was in without a problem. Who knows?
I do a lot of hosting and I haven't found any differences between hosting and not hosting.
Equally, the number of players doesn't seem to matter, providing everyone's patched up. Statistically, I suppose, the more players you have, the more room there is for a problem.
