Sometime after installing the gold edition, the music just stopped playing. After checking all the settings, reinstalling the game, installing the latest patches, installing an older version of QT (I have the newest version), and banging my head on the keyboard, I'm stumped!! Any help out there?

Hey! Great handle! I LOVE MacAddict! After Mac User folded, MacAddict kept me from being despondent about not having Andy Ihnatko in my mailbox every month (note he now appears periodically in MacHome).
I agree with Smash, even though you checked settings, double check 'em. I have QT 4 Pro and OS 8.6 and the music plays with no problem. Actually, it plays so well that it annoys me and I don't use the CD!

Odds on it's the CD defaulting. Happened to me.

Thanks for all the posts. The problem does seem to be with the CD player, however, the volume is fine. What does seem to be the problem is that the CD player just won't play the songs when told to. The track will be highlighted, and the play button will be pressed, but the music won't play unless I stop it and press play again. The only problem with this is the music isn't random and will stop when another song is triggered. I have had this problem on a performa 6400 w/ OS 8.1 and on a G4 w/ OS 9 (both w/ QT4). Thanks again though.

This is curious. Perhaps I don't understand the problem. I popped in the MPG CD and started a saved single-player game and the music started right up (Music is selected in the Game Options). It is playing in a random fashion, and if I go to File - Pick Music, I can change the selection with no problems. Additionally, if I open the Apple CD Audio Player (Ver. 2.2.3) the tracks are highlighted and play as expected when double clicked or when advanced using the track selection button. When I select the Shuffle button the music plays randomly. I never had to stop and restart a track to either get it to play initially or to change tracks.
In short, I can't seem to duplicate the problem. If there is a fundamental conflict I either can't find it or don't understand it. "Gee, thanks MacUser, you're a hell-of-a-lot a help!"
