  • Scenario Map Modification

I'm trying to rework the Alexander scenario in MGE & would like to edit the map to make Greece a little bigger, but where's the map file? Also, where can I get quality documentation on ins & outs of scenario building (events editor, programming language syntax, etc.)?

I think you're out of luck with your map problem. It seems that the map of the scenario is contained within the scenario file itself. I was just reading how Brian Reynolds, who made a scenario based on Tolkein's Silmarillion, decided he wanted to change the map, and had to rebuild the whole scenario to do it.

So you will probably have to design a new scenario from scratch. Luckily there are oodles of ancient units all around to help!

There is a detailed guide on Advanced Scenario Design by Leon Marrick. You can find it online at
    www.cyberaddiction.com

However, that version is missing a few chapters. I still recommend it highly. There are some other guides to scenario design at the same site though.

If you have ZipIt, you can download a zipped guide [I think it's Marrick's] from apolyton's civ2 hints section:
    http://apolyton.net/civ2/civ2hint.shtml

The Scenario League maintains a page of design tips that I've found very useful:
    http://sleague.apolyton.net/Guides/tips_main.shtml

You should find some help with events there. You will find that most experienced designers advise against using either the events editor or the units editor. I don't quite know all the details, but I trust their experience.

Have you taken a look at some of the events files that come with MGE? You can learn a lot that way.

    Hope this helps!
