  • map exchange crashes

I've run into a spate of crashes when I try to exchange maps with AI civs. No problem with the other human player. I do the exchange within my turn. Just as it's about to happen, everything crashes back to my desktop. I've got the latest patch. Anyone else?

U-huh. Glad it wasn't just me. I'd installed Norton 6, which I immediately uninstalled again after I was told it caused problems. I did have a spate of crashes out of Civ, Final Draft, Word, and all sorts of other things.

Have you ever successfully traded maps with the AI? With the latest patch? My debacles were the first time I'd tried with this patch. I think I managed to do it prior to installing it but I could be wrong.

The AI always refuses to trade maps with me. I'm unloved I guess. Playing humans I have not problems. Did it tonight in fact.

Mmm. Trading maps with humans isn't the problem. I did it several times in the same game in which the map trades with AIs caused the crashes. Ironically, trading goods with other humans was one of the major problems pre this latest patch.

Anyway, I think it's one for Mr Nesse or whatever his name is. Though his lack of response to my query (with all the details) in September causes me to wonder if it's worthwhile.

Mmmmmm. Another development. The crash also occurs if the AI instigates the map exchange. I'd been instigating the exchanges.

No I don't even try to trade maps with the ai for this very reason.I think we were better off with 1b1.2.They do seem to be putting these patches out quicker now so hopefully b4 will be THE one.

finbar, maybe you should give Mr. Nesse another chance. Maybe he never received your mail.

Is this a problem only in multiplayer?

Must be only a problem with multi-player. I've only got the non-gold, non-multi-player CIV2 and I trade maps with the AI a lot with no problem.

yep, just the multiplayer version.I have never had a problem of any kind with the single player version.Works like a charm.

Gold, on the otherhand has been problem plagued from the get-go.It was subcontracted to a less than reputable outfit that simply translated the PC version with little or no knowledge of the MAC OS.At least this is what I have been told.

valmont, I'm going to give Mr Nesse another chance. In fact, I think I'll do it now.

What the map-trade-crash problem does to a game between Macs and PCs is require an agreement not to trade maps with the AI.

I've emailed Mr Nesse re the map-crash problem. I also mentioned my last email that seems to have gone nowhere. We wait.

Heard back from Mr Nesse. He said he hasn't heard anything about the AI-map exchange-crash and he's going to look into it for us. Which is great. Because it's a pain in the arse not being able to trade maps with them.

He said my earlier problem - inability to join a game - was fixed with the latest patch.

Heard back from Mr Nesse as follows:

                              ubject:
                              RE: Mac Civ 2 crashes

Hmm, well it doesn't crash on my systems...it just kind of goes out to lunch
while doing lots of network polling. The good news, however, is that I
believe it's probably just a different manifestation of the same problem...
                              which I have fixed.

I will try to get b4 posted to the website before I leave tonight (I'll be
out of the office until Monday).

Smash - it doesn't crash for the host? I thought it did. Oh well.
