Civ in general question

I have over the years enjoyed playing these types of games but im confused and need some help.

I started off playing Civilization, then a call to power, then ctp2, then i bought Civ3 and had a shock as this version seemed to be going backwards??

Being annoyed i returned it and hadnt bothered until recently when i bought Civ4 and again although graphically superior etc.. etc.. gameplay wise it seems to be worse than CTP2?? Whats going on please??

1. No future tech
2. I cant group multiple units
3. No cities on the seafloor

as well as loads of others!

Also i am sure there was a version you could build floating cities directly above a city, but having instyalled CTP2 recently it seems it wasnt that, any ideas anyone?

I find Civ4 very pleasing. Even on my machine.

Call to Powers I and II were created by Activision. They were quite seperate from the Civilization series, and so would play very differently.

The game with floating space cities was Call to Power I.
