How would you see a "Mars Colonization" TBS game?

I'm surprised that no game was done yet about going on Mars, should it be a RTS or even Mario's Mars Golf. How should a TBS on the "going on Mars" context be?

Personally, I see pretty well different Mars factions with each of them getting support from different Earth factions / nations (corporations, X-Prize, religious cults, whatever) based on actions, successes or origin. It seems that in the end the Age of Empires which is coming thaught about that on the RTS scene but I thought about this before them

As in SMAC, terraforming might affect everyone at once and maybe the wind can teleport you

I don't really expect miracles, but if a SMAC-like would come out from somewhere, it seems like it could be a subject theme now. And I find it quite fun

For a Mars remake of SMAC, download the Mars Survivors scenario.

Well there is earth 2150, though that was the moon and not mars....

But really the best one would have been the long canned simmars, now that was looking like it would have been a great game

I'm always on the look out for the game Outpost failed to be. Unfortunately these days I dont think anyone would bother trying for a serious game about viable ways of harnessing the resources of the solar system. Instead we get the likes of Space Colony and Startopia.

Well, there is a mod for SimCity 4 to turn it into SimMars:

I never tryed it, but it looks impressive.

Well those are not adapted to this specific environment. It's simply a city on Mars or a SMAC-like model applied to Mars. It has the form but not the content.

If there is something to come about a planet-base TBS, it'd be Mars before something else. I don't know if there is an important enough audience for this, but I'm still curious to see how could be included Earth factions, oil/food/tools shipments Earthly shipments, Mars factions, potential green/tech/religious fanatics, smuggling...

Well, I would actually like having colonizing the Mars, instead of Alpha Centari, as victory condition.

AC spacetrip is just to much SF.

SMAC on Mars... SMCM anyone? (Sid Meier's CivMars)

The problem with colonizing Mars is that the planet is essentially uninhabitable, too hostile for human life. Alpha Centauri is (at least in Civ terms) a solar system which resembles our own system, and this would make it a better place to perpetuate our species.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

I guess terraformation would be one of the central issues of a Mars game.

Such as in the Mars scenario I linked to. There you start on a superdry Mars world, and have to create seas to make it more habitable.

I read once, in a popular science paper, that if we started now, we could terraform Mars to be inhabitable for humans after 100 years. The way to do it was essentially doing a darwinistic approach in fast forward.

Maniac: Don't worry, I WILL give a look at your scenario

Nikolai: I heard 200 years for a more complete terraformation. They were thinking about creating some massive greenhouse effect. But all this evolves so much and so fast that I don't know what they're up to now. But obviously, the terraformation part would be great in a game, especially with players at each others' throats hehe

                            CivMars would be great

I've also thought about a civ-like game that takes place on Dune (what was the planet called again?)
This space is empty... or is it?

It was called Arrakis. But this would seem pretty "niche market" oriented so I don't see this being done in priority over a Mars setting. SciFi doesn't catch with everyone, and Mars fans are perhaps more numerous than Dune fans as Mars is more known on this planet than Arrakis
