I am a big fan of civilization and love to LAN alot. most of my friends would rather play a RTS (Real time strategy) rather than a healthy game of civ2 or 3. Aparently the perfect cross is being made called Empire Earth 2. This combines the empire building ect. of the civ series with detailed RTS style battles. What is best however is the amount of multiplayer abilities they have added which made the civ games great. Has anyone else heard of Empire Earth 2, or could giv me there opinion on it?

Empire Earth was alright. Rise of Nations was great, my preferred RTS game so far. Still, despite the many Civ-like concepts in RoN, it remains a RTS game not very much like Civ. If you like RTS, then you possibly like something separate from Civ. In a Civ game, how fast you react never matters. In a RTS game, it always matters. No matter how you combine the gameplay elements, it will always be separate.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I'm not against RTS games, actually I like some of them. But please keep Civ turned based."The only way to avoid being miserable is not to have enough leisure to wonder whether you are happy or not. "

I consider RoN a good RTS.
With that said, RTS games of late have been taking a step in the right direction... with pause functions, and various 'speed' settings, more grand strategy can be deployed and emphasized, though it's still a long way off from competing with TBS.

As to the original poster's comments, considering that Empire Earth 2 isn't out yet, if you want a civ-like game in RTS format, try Rise of Nations. It sounds like exactly what you want. I own it, and it's ok, but it's a RTS, so I can only play it once or twice a year... which indicates my distaste for the genre overall.
