  • Colonization for Win and the usual troubles with sound

    Hi guys and girls!!

I got a problem. I loved to play colonization, when it was first released, but lost the game and my copies in the last years.

Just downloaded the windows version from underdogs and it works perfect, except of the sound.

Can't start the setup program, because the computer can't find "install.bin" file.

Could any of you help me please? I love this game and without sound it's only half the fun.

You got that problem too eh? I get the impression tht the Windows version looks for the music on the CD. So without the cd...

The sound works fine for me although I play it on my Windows 98. Perhaps you are running it on Windows XP?

ahhh, true, to a point. it looks for music on the CD, but not neccessarily the Colonization CD. I used to play Colonization with the Civ2 CD in and hear Civ2 music while I played.

or the XWing CD and hear Star Wars Music.....

I was just about to point out that Horsie is simply making excuses in advance for why he will suck at Civ III...

The problem may be with your hardware.

Everything is explained in this thread:

I tried the windows version once and I think it installed fine if i installed it from a local directory on my HD and set both the install and game to run in win 95 (mebbe 98) compatibility mode. With 2k get at least service pack 2 then do a google search for "enable compatibility mode" go the the tops page at ms and find the cmd. with xp you can enable it too but dammed if i know how, i cant stand xp =/

i found that i preferred running the dos version with VDMS better though, i liked the graphics better.
