  • MOO2 on OS9 or later crashes

Has anyone found a fix for MOO2 crashing out on OS9 or OSX when the game switches to ground combat? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I've become pretty adept at running a genocidal campaign because of this, but if one of the computer players lands troops on a planet -- poof -- game over.

I suggest re-posting your query either in the MOO forums or the OT Forum, as Mac folks have been discouraged to discuss anything outside of the Civ series of games in these forums.

I don't know if that's true. My HOI thread wasn't closed and presumably it's worth discussing here rather than in the Paradox Games forum, since we can only multi with other Mac players.

At some point we should organise a Poly mac HOI game.

Try Inside Mac Games. There are a couple threads about getting MP games at the moment.

Not trying to break any rules. I posted in the MOO1/2 area but got PC responses (not helpful). And there are no MOO1/2 areas for Macs.

OT was a mess and I figured nothing would come of that. And I saw that non-Civ questions were being asked here, so I tried.

I'll try Inside Mac Games. Thanks.

Yeah, I know, but I have a lot of work to do right now. Maybe after Xmas.

I've bought the game but had no real time to play it.

edit: Kogr, try the latest patch. 1.2.5

Thanks, but do you know where I can get it? Googling for it has been a nightmare.

Not really, that's master of orion 3. The problem was with it's predecesor, right?

I don't have HoI but I'd definatly be up for a polly EU2 game...

                      Patch

It may be that this is a game that just won't work with 9.2.2 or Classic mode. Baldur's Gate is like this.

Latest released update for Moo 2 is v1.6. This version should run fine under OS 9.2.2. I do it all the time. I've never tried running it in Classic Mode, but would expect it should work there as well.

I've never heard of it crashing when switching to ground combat before... maybe one of your data files is corrupt?

                          Hey Kogr,

I've been having the same troubles with Moo2 v 1.6 running under Classic in 10.3 — ground combat always crashes.

I don't know when the problem started, 'cause I just started playing again for nostalgic reasons after trying Moo3.

I have 9.2.1 installed as my latest Classic verion. I have found that restarting properly into 9 solves the problem for me, but this is annoying to do every time I want to play Moo2, and I worry because I'm sure my next Mac won't be able to boot into 9...

Yep. Then we'll have to wait a few years for someone to write an emulator.

But in the meantime, i got MOO3. A very different type of game from MOO2 but I like it.

                              You actually like MOO3!?

What is it you like? Maybe I'll give it another chance, but to me it was a waste of money that I wish I'd never spent.
