  • Civ1 OCC

Ok, this is a bit different than in Civ2. you can't build Stock Exchanges or Research Labs, The specials are a LOT more scarce, and every unit outside your city square makes someone unhappy during rep or demo. you can't just put them in a fortress and be happy. Also, you can never transform any of that undesirable land. A desert is a desert is a desert.

Still, I've done it on chieftan and warlord, and am doing it on prince.

    any comments?

    Other difficulties...

... you can't build a manufacturing plant until robotics, when you already have all your structurals, at 2 turns per. unless you advance it a bit by buying a rifleman first, then changing to ss structural.

... I ran into a bug of some sort, where it would sometimes take 10 turns to get a tech, when the one before and the one after took 3 turns. it took until 1870 to launch the ship. somebody built cure for cancer while I was at it.

OK, I just played on king, with a sweet city spot with 2 game and a fish. unfortunately, while I was building my first module, the russians started building theirs, with 3 or 4 parts per turn. Their ship landed 3 years before mine, blast it.

OK, I won my king level game by playing again from the 1750 save file. just a little bit smarter with the use of caravans in building spaceship parts.

I don't know if I can do this on emperor. I'd need a spot with a couple of gold or gems areas.

Since I don't get manufacturing plant until I'm about to finish the ship, it seems converting a lot of unshielded grasslands to forest as soon as you're about to get space flight may do the trick. I was at about 72 shields production, which is kind of heartbreakingly close to the neccesary 80 for a structural per turn. the only way otherwise is to use a caravan, or rush buy a dip.

          Hi Father Beast,

Friend and me managed it even on deity, but that was a looooooooooooong time ago.

But you shall be able to manage it, just spend spare production on caravans right from the beginning. You also have to share a lot if the AI. Then it shall work. Also money helps

ummm.... there isn't a deity level in civ1. Even at the highest, I was only getting about 350 light bulbs, with 3 trade routes, collossus, copernicus, and isaac. this is compared to the 800 light bulbs I could get on a civ2 OCC.

try on emperor. Civ1 makes it so that other civs at peace with you can camp out in your city radius. makes it hard to produce without the units on your borders. and any units outside make people unhappy, fortress or not. and shakespeare expires with electronics, so you can't blithely sell your temple and collisseum.

As I have the German version I assumed it is called the same

For the Camp in: If you surround your place like with the Caravans, they first have to destroy them...... I always use non-combat units (also like diplomats to protect my area. Diplomats are also great to get settlers, which do not cost anything in maintanance

Sometimes same for attacking units, don't defeat, just buy :d

Diplomat's are also great to get advances for free..........

                  Emperor was most difficult
which would be "Kaiser" in german

IIRC it was: Chieftain, Warlord, Prince, King and Emperor

I must admit, I can't even remember, while you wrote it down, it might have been Kaiser, but I am not sure anymore.........

I think it is time to play it again
