There is an interesting tour here of the 10.3 Panther interface.

Offering the brilliant new thinking and innovations in the digital design and marketing worlds.

Some of this stuff has been seen before (on rumour sites and posted here by yours truly) but some of it is new. I like the new Finder best of all.

I suppose that my only major problem with the 10.3 interface is the reduction of the aqua and the impletmentation of brushed metal on a limited scale. I suppose that i like OS X to be very visually different from WinX which i feel that the gradually increasing use of brushed metal and the toning down of aqua looks like to me. But the interface is still superior, but i do hope that apple gives us the opion of which look to use on the OS(themes hopefully). I do like the implementation of the ask for password when awakened since i have a laptop, and i really could use that feature. The whole new security pane is a great step forward for laptop users. I also like the ability to change the shortcuts in the system(another great addition for laptop users). What whould be nice is if the DVD player in 10.3 will be multi region, but i think that's a bit too much to hope for. The new idisk is something that will probably keep me using my .Mac supscription.

All in all every thing i've seen about it(save the move away from aqua) or heard, i've liked, keep it up apple!!

I hope that Apple introduces themes into Panther, whould be a nice way to more personalize your computer(and since winx has had this ability for a long time)

So has 10.1ff. All you need to do is find a free theme manager online. I don't bother since most of the themes on offer are hideous.

              Troo.

Hey Drake check out the QuickImage free utility I linked to in the customization thread. It's great - I use it all the time.

This alone may make Panther worth the upgrade. Anything that makes my font management simpler is great in my book.

Yeah, that's why I'm getting it. I can't stand having Word list a million fonts I never use.

Isn't it ****ing horrible? The fact that it scrolls down so slowly makes it even worse, as does the fact that all the Japanese fonts are buried at the bottom. I switch between Times for English and Hiragino Mincho Pro W3 for Japanese all the time and Word just makes it a total *****. Why couldn't they have taken advantage of OS X's great font panel? Even TextEdit does that...

Because it isn't a Cocoa app. Office uses the Carbon API. Supposedly the next version will use Cocoa, which will mean it can use the UNIX services menu.

Nisus have a basic word processor that does this, check it out.

And watch them charge an arm and a leg for the next Word version with not very many discounts too...

Yeah, I won't be able to afford the next version of Office. I got this one for cheap via my university, but I can't enjoy those perks anymore now that I'm a graduate.

I'll still be getting Panther cheap. I keep meaning to buy a copy of Photoshop, since it's discounted for students, but I'm not sure if I'd use it for anything other than playing.
