Yeah, it does seem extraordinarily silly not to port it. Look at all the Sims add ons that have made their way to the mac.
The Sims add-ons have the distinction of selling more units for just the expansion than most Mac games themselves.
what they should do is a promotion stunt , and at the same time make loads of money , the release at the same time or within very short time frame of one and an other both the PC and apple version
They did exactly this for Civ3's initial release. All the TV and print ads mentioned the Mac version from the start, and the Mac release was, IIRC, 2 months behind the PC release as we had started development when the PC version was being worked on.
Of course, the downside to doing simultaneous development on the Mac product is that it costs more money, since the development time is longer. It's really only practical when you know that the game is going to sell a ton of units. You certainly wouldn't want to do that on a title that wouldn't move very many copies. About the only way out of that dilemma is to have a Mac programmer on-staff instead of contracting out the work, but Mac programmers are hard to find.
about talking to Firaxis , well trying to sell them that idea , the fact that instead of listening to all those high payed hotshots who look at the stock exchange rather then making money , well those hotshots should for ones instead of being to ( read over ) carefull innovate something new , the PR and the sales would go sky high
Why tell Firaxis? They have no involvement in that. From my conversations with them, they're quite excited to have Mac versions of every single one of their titles. But as I've said before, wanting something to happen does not mean that it is always feasible.

Well, there you have it. The state of Macintosh gaming has plunged to a precipitous new low ...
Don't feel too bad - it's that way on the PC side of the fence as well. Actually, the Sims represents one of the few games that appeals to a very broad cross-section of people across a wide range of ages, so it's not entirely surprising.

hi ,
but not in the shops , .... what i mean is that the boxes have to be in the shop , next to each other , .....
many overseas distributors complain about late deliveries and high prices , .....
i know a shop in Italy that had to wait 8 weeks for its delivery ( import / export ) inside the US
mac version is great but as long as a game is not there in the stores for both PC and mac platform or within short time frame like 2 to max 4 weeks , a lot of money is being lost , ......
yes Mac people are not so easy to find , .... do you need help
firaxis who ever holds the lic and rights ( last part )
anyway , a Q that you could maybe answer ; shall we see a "local language" version for each country also in mac OS
I really don't know. A long time ago, I handed the Civ3 code off so it could be localized, but I don't know what languages that was for, or if any other Mac lanaguages shipped. In my experience, most Mac games are localized for French and German, and that's about it.
Since Civ3 stores the text outside of the app, you could probably localize it yourself for most of the languages. Just grab the appropriate foreign patches and replace the .txt files. You'll have to edit them some to match up with the Mac "Cmd-Q" and "RETURN" text labels, among other things. After you've done that, you'll still have the issue of English resources, but you can edit those with ResEdit or Resorcerer on the app itself.
