  • Sid Meier interviews

Sid recently gave two interviews on Revolution:

Sid discussed the new "Artefacts", which are targets for exploration that grant your civ special privileges. Artefacts include the city of Atlantis, the Ark of the Covenant, the Knights Templar, and can be discovered while exploring the map.

Sid also talked about the "Game of the Week", which is a single-player game but you download the information from the network to start the game (similar to the Tri-League Tournament game here). This SP tournament will result in one world`s greatest Civilization player with the highest score in The Game of the Week.

As for why the time was right for a console-based Civ game, Sid mentioned that while RTSs are too fast for a gamepad-based console, [w]hereas with Civilization, given that it`s turn-based, it feels very natural on the console controller, and that`s our advantage.

Sid Meier recently gave another interview about the upcoming Civilization: Revolution, this time to the Australian newspaper Herald Sun. In it, Sid talks about his involvement in the development of Revolution:

I'm extremely hands-on. As the designer, I created the prototype in 2005, which has led to the creation of the game. I'm programming the game every day, along with our incredibly talented programming team at Firaxis.

He elaborates about being directly involved in porting Civilization to the console:

In many ways it's liberating to have the chance to completely revisit a game, identify what's most fun about it and then use that as a base to move in new directions.

Furthermore Meier talks about the possibility of a PC or Mac port, the differences with Civilization IV and the original Civilization, why the game is turn-based and not real-time and what it's like to be revered as a guru.
