  • How do you shut off culture flipping?

    Hi All:

I just got PTW and updated to the current patch (PTW1.21). In part I got PTW because I'd seen threads in which it was stated that you could shut off flipping in the PTW editor. I am just getting into Civ3, and the flipping implementation just ruins the game for me, so I want to kill flipping.

I have tried the editor rules change area, and didn't see such an option. I've also spent the last 20 min searching the threads here trying to find a reference for how to do it.

Could someone help me out with how to do it? Or if it can't be done, please tell me that too. If it can't be done, are there any fairly simple ways to tone it down without completely changing the game?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

When you are starting the game and selecting your civ you can turn it off in the same area where you set the victory conditions.

is there a way to stop culture flipping in civ 3? in my opinion it really detracts from the game, especially when a size 4 city with 30 of your units in it flips back to its original civilisation.

        cheers

After selecting world type in the PTW game there is the screen where you set diffuculty level. Just above the difficulty level bar is a checkbox that says "Allow Cultural Conversions". Just deselect it and you're set.

I also play with corruption at 67% of normal since otherwise corruption really annoys me! You can set that in the editor using Edit Rules - Difficulty - and change the corruption setting from 100% by hand for the difficulty level you're going to play.

Is there a way to just lower the rate, instead of remove it completly?

Not really, as far as I know, though you could just lower all the culture generated by improvements. The only control I've seen is the numbers that determine border exapnsion. There is one setting for a Level Multiplier that might have an effect, though I doubt it, since it doesn't have any control over the overall culture. I think it only affects the timing of the border expansion. You'll find everything on the General Settings page of the editor.
