  • Obsoleting the Manhatten Project

I have considered this for a scenario I'm designing, and wonder if anyone has tried this yet, and knows how it affects nuclear weapons. Will making the Manhatten Project obsolete by the discovery of some tech, say "SALT III" for example, prevent any more nuclear weapons from being built? What happens to existing nuclear weapons? Do they still work or not?

Along a similar line, has anyone tried making a nuclear bomber by giving the "Nuclear Weapon" unit ability to a bomber unit? Does it work as one would expect? Does the AI use it? Is it destroyed after use? Obviously, the reason here is to have a nuclear bomber that can be intercepted by a fighter before completing it's mission.

I believe that making the manhatten project go obsolete will not prevent nuclear weapons from being built and it will not effect existing weapons.

As for the bomber. if you gave it the nuclear weapons ability it would act just like a nuclear weapon, and it might get destroyed. However, I haven't tried any of this. Maybe you could do the tests and then report back to us? It would be easy to set up the tests with the PTW editor.

I don't know for sure, but I'd have to agree with you. I suspect that it's only needed as an initial trigger, and after it's been constructed nuclear weapons can always be built.

I saw something like this at the ALL Civ forums
        ( www.forumplanet.com/strategyplanet/civilization )

They were talking about trying to build the Manhattan Project and have the AI destroy their city.

I beleive the final result of these tests was "No, this did not stop Nukes from being built"

I'll see if I can find the thread.

          Here is the link

It seems to have conflicting information, so I guess the answer is "I'm not sure"

          Sorry
