New graphics card, more problems

Hi!
I have just installed a new graphics card, and now Civ is making problems. I run at 1280 x 1024 resolution usually, and before the change of graphics cards, Civ ran smoothly, setting into its 1024 x 800 mode everytime it was started -- now it doesn't. Anyone know what's wrong?

What kind of card do ytou use, can your monitor take it? What does Civ3 do when you start it? Have you tried fixing your refresh rate in the settings?
