Limit Tech/Advances For Everyone?

I am wondering if it is possible to limit how far you and the computer can advance technologically?

I’d like to get some good large scale battles during a time period other than the later eras.

I’ve tried to limit how far I can advance by deleting advancements in the scenario editor, but had some insane results. I’ll build my first city and I find I’m able to build units and things of advances I specifically deleted.

The reason you can't build things of advances you are deleted is because they have those techs set as required advances in the units tab. If you want to extend a certain era the best way to that is to make all the techs in that era very expensive.
