  • PTW Space Race problem

I posted this on the PTW forum as well, but here goes.

Scenario: I'm nearing the end of a nice 7-hour game of PTW, cheerily building all of my spaceship components. I'm playing as Carthage, and the other 3 civs left in the game haven't even started their ships.

Finally, around 2001, I build the SS Planetary Party Lounge or whatever it's called, and nothing happens. It doesn't take me to the spaceship screen, it just keeps gonig.

If I press f10, nothing happens either. Well, it does play the page-turning sound as if the spaceship screen was coming, but no. In previous saves of the same game, I can pull up the SS with no problem, but as soon as I build the Lounge, no more space.

Can anyone help me out here? I am so terribly confused.

I have the same problem. Can anyone else confirm or offer ideas?

I've built the Apollo Wonder, and spaceship parts have popped up in the build queue, which I've built and completed.

Pressing F10, or clicking on the S button, gives an acknowledgement sound but nothing happens.

Another thread on the same problem:

This occurs when playing with no mods, and with the Balancer mod. On Windows 98, I can see the spaceship screen, but I can't launch (button "clicks", but nothing happens, even though craft is ready according to the screen). On XP systems, can't get to the screen itself.

I've already patched to 129 (not PTW), and verified all hardware drivers and DirectX.

Sent a note to IG support. No response. (Big surprise there).

    Thanks in Advance!

A complete reinstall solves this problem.

My Civ3 uninstaller didn't work on one computer (would jump to 100% complete, and not clear the registry, so if yours breaks, do the following:

      First: Try using the uninstaller

      If that fails:
      1. Delete everything in your Civ3 tree, including the Civ3 directory.

      2. Use regedit to manually erase all keys with the word "Civilization". (Check to make sure these all refer to Firaxis Civ 3... you might have another app installed).

I did some searching, and apparently, any mod that messes with the space race can cause this problem too. Especially if they use the editor to change the number of parts required for the spaceship. So try an Off the Shelf game (granted, boring) just to be sure yours works, then check your favorite mod.
