I have read several posts on this and I think it all adds up to crummy programming. I have 640 ram and 800 athlon and I wont try to run anything larger than standard size maps. It sucks and is the reason I didn't buy the expansion pack.

First of all, the grafic card isn't all that important.
Huge maps are fully playable as long as you keep the number of civs down.
Originaaly it was designed for 8 civ's at once, but firaxis gave in on popular demand.

So expect slowdowns on not state of hte art material and even then.

          This is Civilization.

You actually need a 4.8gH computer and a really fast Internet to play it.

It's also about reality, or lack thereof.

Don't worry, when one gets a faster computer in a couple of years, and Civilization runs alright, it will still be on the hard drive when other games have come and gone.

          One needs a Civilization first!
          I guess!
