Just popping in to say that the Swedish army was stronger only because Finnish soldiers fought in it.

    Ever heard of hakkapeliitta?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

ex-pat Finnish nationalists? -- Finland of course having been part of Russian Empire ...

... and (I'm always curious about such things) were they specialists, e.g., ski troops?

        Post not posted

This is strange: I posted a large post, but I can't see it anywhere.

I'm not quite sure about the time, but for long, Finland was part of Sweden, up till 1800-something. (I really should know this... ) Maybe the CIA world factbook might know something.

          Nothing special, just tough fellows.

Finland was occupied -- taken from Sweden -- by the Russian Empire 1714-21. The series of treaties which ended the "Great Northern War" then returned Finland to the Kingdon of Sweden. The Russian Empire re-annnexed it in 1808-9, and I believe it remained so until siding with the Whites in the 1917 Revolution.
