  • How you would use this Unit? (Sloop)

For my Colonize project I start making a Sloop-O-War. Finished is just the 3D model. All the other things are still to do. I will attach the icon for pedia_large but this is still in jpg format.

This sloop: A small ship, made for use as pirate, privateer or small war ship. Any other Ideas?

Perhaps a raider? A fast warship with moderate attacking power but low defence. Used to rush in and kill a galley some other ship ship with small defences and then escape. Not strong enough to take on a real warship.

Yes, somthing like this would be good. Hunting Galleys ... hehe.

I tough about making it possible transporting "air units". (This will work only in my Scn - there are no planes between 1492 and 1815. So the air units became free for other use.) The "air units" in the scenario will be named... "secret mission" or somthing familar. How do you think about this idea?

In my personal mod I'm trying to prolong the separation of warships and transports to the time before frigates and galleons, but I'm lacking unit graphics.
By now I only have the coracle as an ancient age transport (I gave it 0/0/2, so it can be captured and a transport capability of 1 unit).
I'd like to make the galley a warship (maybe with the ability to transport one unit, which I also gave the frigate).

        What's missing by now, is:

        - A transport ship for the classic age (about 500 BC to Middle ages), which completes the upgrade path from coracle to caravel.

        - An early medieval warship somewhere between the galley and the frigate. Looking at your preview this could be your unit!

Maybe for your mod you could do something similar. Make the caravel a mere transport and the sloop a pre-frigate warship.

Use as pre frigate warship. Hmm, it seems you are playing Anno1503? There is somthing like that: the small warship. Its a "pre-greater-warship-unit" .

The transport ship for the classic age is a good idea too. If unit creation where more easyly, i would create "tons" of naval units again... but it isn't easy. So I will create only some units for this scn, especially.

Thank you, but the problem is not the lack of historical knowledge, but those of unit graphics.

Nevertheless the page you mentioned seems very interesting.

Aside from the Fire Galley posted here at Apolyton, That Other Place has the following available for downloading --

                "Arabian Caravel"
                "Persian Galley"
                "Longboat"

-and, for a bit later on --

                "Ironclad Frigate"
                "Ironclad Ram"

... And I'm still hoping to convince someone to cook up both a dromon and a galleas ... I'll let you know if I succeed.

                Best,

I made it an additional greek UU (Most Civs have several UUs in my game).

As far as I know the only difference to the standard caravel is the picture on the sails.

I'm already using this one as an ancient age pirate with hidden nationality. The AI loves them! And since it upgrades to privateer, I finally see the AI use those, too.

I'm already using this as an early-medieval transport (available with invention, sinks only in ocean) and I'm planning to convert it to an additional Viking UU when I finally get PTW.

I frequently check CFC's creation forums, but it won't hurt if you alert me.

                  Thanks for your response, Oz!

I also noticed the need for more naval units. The sloop will be the first result from that. Ideas for new (naval) units are welcome too, but it would be the best (for me), if these units would be a good addition for Age of Colonization/Age of Discovery units. Well, I have own ideas enough, of cource, but if yours seems to be better or more flexible - no reason for persist in old ideas. Actually the rules are not done, so new things could be implemented easaly.
