  • Why can't I build Chinese riders??

I'm playing the Chinese on regent level and have access
to iron and horses as strategic resources in a number of my cities, however I cannot build my UU - riders. Does anyone know if this is a bug? I'm well advanced in technology.

Also my Elite swordsman cannot even defeat a rookie enemy swordsman. How come? Does playing on higher levels mean that the attack/defense bonuses become changed on the AI's favour?

    Thanks for any help.

Your Rider problem is strange (if you're well advanced could it be obselete? ) but playing at higher levels don't really change attack/defence stats. That was just an unlucky roll of the dice - you'll get a bit of that, after all it is POSSIBLE for a rookie swordsman to defeat even a tank.

Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. I am not sure why you can't build a ch. horseman, remember though that it may be that the unit has been rendered absolute if you are advanced to far.

A swordsman can defeat a vet swordsman for various reasons, keep in mind that there is always an element o fluck in any battle. That is why a spearman can take on a tank succesfully.

Can you build knights? Then you've probably disabled the "enable civ specific units/abilities" option.
Can you build cavalry? Then you're riders are already obsolate and were replaced by cavalries (but for cavalries you need saltpeter, too; so maybe better check if you have discovered Military Tradition).

The result of the battles depends on a lot of things: attack/defence values, hit points, terrain, defence bonuses (walls, cities, etc), and also luck. However, if you are well prepared and have a good strategy, you will eventually win the war, even if you lose some battles.

Playing on higher levels do not affect the battle results.
