  • Civ3 in SLOW MOTION!

Alright - going crazy here. Ever since I bought the game I havn't been able to play it on my computer. All animations are in Slow Motion. (Loads quick - just animations). At my work however, it runs tip top and it's a crappy cpu at work! I've tried EVERYTHING (well, obviously not)... anyone have any ideas?

    MY CPU (SLO MO)
    1.00 GHZ Celeron
    376 MB Ram
64 MB Vodoo 5 PCI Card
    WINDOWS XP PRO

    MY WORK CPU (RUNS FINE)
    466 MHZ Celeron
    128 MB Ram
    Internal Video Care (4MB?)
    WINDOWS XP PRO

I've tried both pro and home xp, tried a different video card, arg... Has anyone seen this problem before? I can turn animations off - but fortifying units and building settlers goes sooooooooo slow! HELP!

I spend most my money on Wine, Women and Song.. the rest i just waste.

If your computer is displaying 376MB Ram, that could be indicative of the prob. You (more than likely have 384MB of Ram) The additional 8mb is usually stolen (or borrowed according to the PC companies) by an ONBOARD VIDEO CHIP. So, if you ever had an onboard chip, like an SIS or S3 card, make absolutely sure it is disabled in your device manager AND/OR in your BIOS. Also, make sure you only have 1 display tab in your DXDIAG. Apart from that, make sure your video drivers are current (i.e. Nvidia just released drivers on 11/11/02)

I'm running into the exact same problems - I've got way more than enough for system specs, and the game ran great under Win2K, but after a fresh install to XP Pro, I get the same slow motion problems.

I've tried that latest Detonators, I've tried going back to the older 30.87's, I've tried everything I can think of. Hopefully it magically fixes itself on its own - I really don't want to go back to Windows 2000 :\

this problem poped up once again for me on PTW. i also noticed at that time that the .bix file was not loding in the editor anymore either. reinstallig PTW fixed the problem for me.

this happened to me after re-installing XP Pro, the problem was that i was using the XP drivers for my GeForce card not the NVidia ones.

exactly the same happened to me. it was the sound card that was messing the animations up. you can have proper animations if you turn off all the sound i think(in the configuration file) but i cant find it in PTW

type NoSound=1 in the PTW.ini file. This worked for me-you get proper animations at full speed but get no sound

Make sure you are not running too many programs at once. I had problems with slow animations, but it went away when I turned off the virus scanning program.

                    Win XP Service Pack 1

After trying absolutely everything, i installed Win XP SP1 and after that, the game started to work perfectly, but, i found out later that the editor does not work, well, better the animations that nothing...
