  • looking for current, updated newbie tutorials

I have found it very diffucult to find current updated information on these forums. too many active threads that reference old patches, 1.17, 1.21, etc. Can someone tell me where I can find a tutorial for a beginner for creating senarios and / or mods that are current through the 1.29 patch? perhaps a website if not a thread?

And I need all the basic information. btw, no RTFM comments from anyone - cuz i did.

nothing in the manual that came with the game, and Prima's Official Strategy Guide was rather dissapointing in the information it game and / or covered. (especialy when compared with the guide for the first game)

    some info wanted:
difference between a mod and a senerio - when would you want to do whcih?
what about changes to the game permanetly? (would that be a mod?)
the strat guide lsits all the things you can change, but has several of them with notes that you shouldn't mess with them (civilopedia entries, animations)

I'm not even sure what to ask, I need a real beginners tutorial. can anyone help?

You really cant find this type of tutorial. The best way to get an answer is post your question here. You will get a very fast reply.

I thought about writing a tutorial myself but decided against it. I would bet that when PTW comes out you will find a new tutorial fast.
    -------

A mod and scenario are similar. A mod makes direct changes to the games rules, appearance, or other things. A scenario can be a mod or not and has a custom map.

No change is really final. Everything can be reversed. If you changed the games rules or appearance you have modded it.

Don't listen to the strat guide. If you want to edit then you need to understand those files. Read the out-dated tutorial and examine all the files then figure it out little by little. If you want edit something and then run the game, if it doesn't work right then redo it.

Remember you can always ask specific questions here and most people will be thrilled to reply.

This is a bit lengthy and may take a few minutes to load because of all the pictures but it should help you out.

Clay wrote the editor tutorial himself. He rocks the house. Clay, I hope your site will become a success.

Very nice, Clay. Do you have it in a Word or similar type file?

Yes I wrote it in word but it doesn't have the pictures in the word version.
I've also added a more in depth tutorial for units this morning.
Let me know what you guys think I appreciate any input.
