Unit upgrades?

One simple question:

How can I upgrade a bunch of units without a great effort (a'la SMAC style)? Or do I have to upgrade every unit individually?

Activate one unit you want to upgade and press "shift U". Every same unit in a city with barracks will be upgraded.

To be more precise:
Every same unit in a city with barracks and access to the needed resources will be upgraded.

SHIFT-U works IF you have the cash to upgrade every unit that is in a barracks in a city with the resources needed. If you don't have enough cash NO unit will be upgraded, not even the active unit.

After doing a SHIFT-U with enough cash there are likely to still be units that were in the field or in city that didn't have a barracks or the resources. The best way to hunt these down is in F3 Military Advisor screen. The screen defaults to show the units in each city. Switch to units from city and you will see a list of unit type. Hover the mouse over the unit and a cursor will show on the mini-map at its location. Click on the unit and you will be taken to that location. This can help hunt down those units in need of an upgrade.
