  • Video problem

When I load CIV3 the video mode makes it so that I have 4 ghosts, each one a smooshed image of the full screen but overlayed so it looks like 4 sep. images. Any ideas? (Maybe Ill try to get a screen shot)

Your refresh is wrong I suspect.

The opening video is 640 by 480 and you may have never set the refresh rate for that.

Refresh will default to 60. Most monitors handle 60 even at higher resolutions -- (mine for example at 1600 x 1200).

Are you using a odd-ball screen size maybe?

I set my Refresh=85, because all of my regular resolutions will take 85, except for 1600 x 1200 which only works with refresh=60Hz.

Check your display with dxdiag.exe in the Systems folder or system32 folder. Its the DX file info program.

Use help and troubleshoot your display.

I really don't know if Civ III works in odd-ball screen modes - one of which is 1280 x 1024. I think it works with that mode, but the real mode is always 4 across by 3 vertical, which makes the real 4 x 3 mode in 1280 -- 1280 x 960 and not 1280 x 1024.

It will work in that mode, but still the regular 4x3 modes are better.

OpenGL is also needed, so it may also have something to do with the settings with that, although I do not have a problem and try to use the most recent video drivers -- ones that work with Direct X 8.0a or above (DX 8.1).

another guess would be that the game is trying to launch in a resolution that your monitor does not support.
I spend most my money on Wine, Women and Song.. the rest i just waste.
