  • Resources: Appearance rate of 0?

How common are resources with an appearance rate of 0?

Are such resources distributed differently than others?

I believe that an apperance rate of zero means that that resource does not appear on the map at all.

It does... in the original settings all luxury resources have an appearance rate of zero.

Things I've noticed about luxury placement:

          1. Luxuries are often found in groups, rather than individually.

          2. Luxuries are divvied up on a continent-to-continent basis, based on civ numbers; for instance, if you have a huge map with 16 civs, and there's a continent that has 3 civs on it, that continent may have 0, 1, 2, or 3 luxury types. These luxury types will not appear on other continents.

          3. The amount of each luxury is usually set to be a couple more than the number of civs present, IF POSSIBLE. For example, one time I was playing a large map, 12 civs, and I got stuck on some cruddy little island that was mostly plains and forests. This mini-continent was designated the gem continent, but it had no jungles and only one mountain. Hence, only one gem resource appeared in the entire game.

Presumably, setting a strategic resource at 0 would have the same effects.
