  • Leaders??????

Hi all, I'm new to CivIII. I have a question. How long does it take for an elite unite to become a leader? I have many elite units, but they never seem to produce leaders no matter how many battles they win. I want to be able to produce an "army" but I can't without a leader. Is there anyway to speed it up. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You can do nothing to increase the chance of a leader occuring for the first time.

You can chose a militaristic civ, that doubles the chance. But apart from that... fight, fight, fight.

You can increase the chance to generate a leader during fights by building the Heroic Epic wonder. But you must first generate at least one leader and have the Military Tradition knowledge to be able building it.

        Time isn't involved. Combat is.

Each time an elite unit wins a battle there is a chance of producing a leader.

        One in sixteen on offense.

        One in Thirty-two on defense.

The Heroic Age Small Wonder increases the chances of producing a leader to one in twelve, maybe its one in twenty-four on defense.

If you want leaders you have to engage in a lot of combat. Its best if you use other units than the elites to damage the enemy and then finish them off with the elites so you don't waste them. Fast units are best for producing leaders because they have a chance to survive if they lose by retreating. Unit that can attack more than once a turn also have a better chance of becomeing elite because if a unit wins twice in one turn it will become elite automaticly. That works on defense as well.

The Heroic Epic needs a victory by an army not just a leader. If you use the Great Leader to rush a Great Wonder you will not be able to build the Heroic Epic. You must build an army and win a battle with it. Also the Heroic Epic does NOT need Military Tradition. Thats the Military Academy you are thinking of. The Military Academy allows you to build armies instead of using a Great Leader to create them.
