I have installed Civ III, with Patch 1.29.

When I click on the shortcut to CivIII, it comes up with a picture, saying "Sid Meier's Civilization III". Then, I cut taken back to desktop, with no error message.

    I have:
    Win ME
    AMD Duron 700mHz
    64MB RAM
    9.68GB of free space

    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the disk in the same drive as you installed from?

That should give you an error box, so I doubt that its the problem. Could be a lot of things.

Did the game work for you at any time?

There is always the uninstall delete Civ III folder and reinstall manuever. That takes care of some problems.

If anything works for you please tell what it was. If not ask again.

It appears to be a problem with a corrupted .exe, I think is civ3.exe.
Maybe the patch you have downloaded have the corrupt file and when you done the upgrade it broke the original functional file.
Lyke Ethelred said, uninstall, delete Civ III folder and reinstall will help.
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Thanks for your help guys. It turns out that the CD was corrupt, so I got a replacement, and a $20 gift voucher
