  • Colonization Scenario - yet unfinished

    Hi there

Some time ago i started making a Colonization Mod using Marlas worldmap and some unit graphics I've found here and there and the ressources were the key object of this scenario. My problem is, I've never got time to playtest it thougroughly (how is this word written!? ) and so I don't know if it makes any sense to post it here. Most Mods I've seen here are updated regularely and updates - I have to admit - I just can't provide.

But if anyone would be interested, to get some new ideas out of the bic file, I'll post it or email it to you.

      Cool!

I've sent you all (i hope) the files you need - except the .flc files of the units I've downloaded from civfanatics. (Thanks to all the people who made them!)

well, I've never made a readme.txt and therefore many rule changes stay unexplained. The most important changes can be found in the civilopedia, but not all of them. And as far as I've seen, there are always detailed information with all the scenarios uploaded here. Until I've made no readme.txt (which is a big task for me, because I really can't remember every descision I've made four months ago) I'll only send it "on demand" - keeps me from being flamed. - On the other hand, it would be a pity if some of the ideas wouldn't be shared with you - maybe another scenario editor with a bit more time, could use them.

(And: all the files needed are more than 500000 bytes when zipped)

Please post it here. It's easier for me to download stuff than receive it through e-mail.

just split it up in smaller files, and if its just units taking up the space say get unit x, unit y and unit z. Make sure they are named correctly to a b and c!

As for a readme I ve seen scenarios just posted with a quick summary of what things do. So post it!

Okey then I'll post the mod dates. Be careful to not overwrite your original files without a backup (zipped it with subfolders). as usual

The units.zip contains all the new unit folders and the .ini files. So far I've made no list, which ones shall be downloaded (you could look this up in the .ini files, but that's surely a bit of a big task...) - I'll hurry to provide you with this list.

The era-science .pcx are too big to post them here - but I suppose you won't get to industrial times anyway - er... crashes... you know how it is...

For what you have to do - well mainly it's a game on earth (marlas map and chaoskitten's mod as a basis), but the different civ's have different advantages (=resources) corresponding with the point they start. So the "ancient Civ's" (rome, babylon etc.) will have papyrus, the middle eastern Civ's will have incense etc. - they're needed for the wonders of the world. This means you should try to get a lead at the time, when your Civ could get one, grace to the resources the others won't get. Or it means that e.g. France should conquer the middle east early (or trade) if it want's to build some of the religious wonders. Some special units have been connected with those special resources too - so if Rome loses Rome, they can't build any legionaries - at least if they can't secure another resource of papyrus elsewhere.

Apart of this it makes sense to conquer america. The american tribes (without "American") have been made harmless using ideas of chaoskitten and myself. Which doesn't mean much, because they just can build too much cities... In america you'll find nice luxury resources and other stuff.

To get all the information consult the civilopedia. I've made a new game concept for each idea, let's say the "native Civ's" the "european Civ's" etc. - And of course I've changed (hopefully) every change I made to the bic file also in civilopedia, so what you read there SHOULD be right for/in the game.

                          the units.

open the Units.doc when you unzipped it.

there you see the links of the graphics you'll need.

The rest of the zip are the needed folders and .ini files.

Of course you can use other graphics than I did if you want. Since may (when I made the mod) many new units have been drawn.

note: not all the new units are on the units.doc - only those, where you have to do more than just copy a .ini file. In other words: the ones where original-files have been recycled are not on the list.

note to the note: except 5 units where I made a mistake in the.ini file which forces you to copy the files from the original folder to the new unit folder.

                          Smile.

I was trying it out, but my PC doesn't really like giga sized maps like this.

I'm sorry to hear that -- hopefully you can use some of the ideas for your scenarios.
