  • Game won't let me win

I just won a cultural victory with the Romans not long after installing the 1.29 patch.

It says I won a cultural victory, but then I get this:

    ERROR READING FILE
    Missing entry in "text\Pedialcons.xt" : LOVED_RACE_ROMANS

    What's wrong?

No, I didn't edit it and everything in it appears to be in place, but it still won't let me win.
On another note, the retirement screens (which I beileve have something to do with the same file) works fine.

      What's going on here?

It sounds like you are playing a mod that has a bug in it.

If not then you may want to uninstall the game, delete the Civ III folder and then reinstall the game and run the patch. Sometimes files get corrupted for no reason other than Microsoft's OS makes a mess occasionaly.

It's not a mod - there is a bug in the Pediaicons.txt shipped with patch 1.29f.

The entry in the Pediacons.txt reads:

          # Small loved Icons
          #LOVED_RACE_ROMANS (Cultural Victory Winner)
          art\leaderheads\CE_CULTB.pcx

You can fix it by editing it (moving the label) to look like this:

          # Small loved Icons (Cultural Victory Winner)
          #LOVED_RACE_ROMANS
          art\leaderheads\CE_CULTB.pcx
