  • intro movie plays too fast!

I just put together a new system.

mobo MSI K7N 415, nforce chipset, AMD XP1800+, 512K PC2100 DDR ram, onboard sound, GeForce 3Ti 200 vid card, 300 Watt power supply. All drivers updated except for lates Bios flash.

I am having trouble with the sound. I installed Civ3 but the music played funny during the install sequence. When I launch Civ 3, the intro movie skips and plays too fast (about triple speed) but Civ 3 seems to play ok if I cancel the intro music and play the game. If I quit and go to windows and then open an MP3 file from the Civ 3 it also plays 3X. However if I then put a normal music CD in the CD rom, it plays normal speed.

The Mechwarrior 4 has a similiar problem. The install music plays too fast or the music stops. During game launch the intro movie plays too fast and skips. The game loads and I can move around the initial menus, but if I launch a mission the computer shuts off completely. Not just a game freeze and a reboot, but the computer actually turns itself off.

I have loaded Nvidia Win98 nforce chipset update 1.05. I have not updated the Bios. It is hard to tell from the boot up screen, but I *think* I have version 3.0 Bios.

Also, I have loaded the Window 98Se updates from MS and I have installed DirectX 8.1. When I run the Direct X diagnostic for the display, the Test Direct 3D, the directx 7.0 cube spins awkwardly, herky-jerky. The directx 8.0 cube spins smoothly.

    Any thoughts?

Most likely you don't have all the drivers updated even though you said you did.

Make sure you have the latest version of Direct X which is 8.1

Get the latest Detonator drivers and install them.

Get the latest sound drivers for that Nforce. Don't just think you have them go to Nvidia.com and make sure.

Enjoy NVIDIA content in your language.

Your MP3 codec may be messed up somehow. Files do get corrupted occasionally. Try installing the latest version of Media Player as that might update the MP3 codec as well.
