  • Ways to reveal the map?

I was thinking on ways to reveal the entire map (or at least key parts of it) to civs before the game actually starts.

the best i have come up with is to put units near enemy cities (German Blitzkreigs start in French territory).

I guess i could give the scout to all civs...

or i could make them not-buildable, but give them a # of them with a movement of 20 or something... probably be abused...

    any other ideas?

Or you could always explore the old fashioned way...

it seems silly for the Germans to not know where britian is during world war 2...

It can of cource be edited in the saves, but there is no sush info in the BICs.

However, I might make a tool to edit the FOW according to a predefined pattern for each civ if many wants it. Thias could then be used similar to the way CPT was used before 1.29f.

        Nothing is decided yet.

Yeah, I think that's a great idea. One step closer to actually making scenarios.

you could always just do the exploring yourself on the first turn with well placed units. Then disband these exploring units and distribute the scenario as a save file... You could also use that first turn to create a political scene, etc.

You could create an air unit. Give it the immobile flag, station them all across the map. Fortified, it will be invisible, and both friendly and enemy units will be able to go through it's tile. You could have several of them on the same tile, one for each civ. Unfortunately, this would get rid of Fog of War.

The hardes thing would be to make an easy to handle file format for it.

                  Hey guys,

I could definitely use anything that would allow us to make real scenarios...

I am currently stuck in the same place.... I spent my time and energy making map, cities, player/civs...

and now I come to find that there isn't a diplomacy editor like in CivII and I can only have 1 of the civs playable if I want to make it definable... And the game (currently) crashes whenever I tried to load the scenario...(--think I can solve this on my own)....

Anyways, one solution I was thinking about is just making everything "simpler" in the game, no real requirements for units that will be used in the scenario, etc... and then just changing AI personalities to avoid building things that should not be built.

Also, for the map, I was thinking of putting a diplomat, with limited abiliities near each capital city... although with 16civs this may be dificult, but it should at least allow starting contact... don't know how this would play out.

So, yes, I would support anything that would allow us more editable functions to make real scenarios (i.e. WWII, Rome from Civ II)
