Has anyone create new mines? I don't like the big chunky things all over the place. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I don't even know if its possible. But if so where could I get it and how do you apply it?

    Thanks

Do you mean the kind of mines that explode?

I think he means the ones that give shields. Over in the Files forum I think there's a new mine graphic look at the topped threads. Hope it helps.

You can also turn them off in the editor if you want to. If you go to the Terrain screen, just set the mining bonus for whatever terrain you want to 0, and the Workers won't make anymore. I've done that in my game, and my maps look much better for it.

Is the look worth the cost?

I've seen edited irrigation. Mines should be editable too.

Mines are editable. And yes I think the look is worth the cost. And IMO, it just makes the game more realistic. When was the last time you saw mine after mine while driving through prime farmland? To make up for the shields lost, you could always increase the number you get from Hills, and especially Mountains. Even Forests, although since the AI just chops them down anyway, it would be giving you a serious advantage.

I agree, I don't think mines on grassland is realistic. It is by far the best terrain for food production and I don't see modern civilization sacrificing farmland for mines when there are hills and mountains unsuitable for farming.

I could see mines in plains, as strip mining in plains is a significant source of granite, gypsum, and salt.

Exactly, thats what i do. Ive made mountains produce more shields than hills as well, i think this is more realistic

Apparently, everyone got rid of grassland mining and increased hill/mountain shields. Maybe Firaxis should have done that to begin with.
