Here's what the map has. It has 8 pretty small islands, on which players start. Islands are not identical, but they're not supposed to be, either. However, each island mostly has plains, also has some Grassland and Tundra. On each island are also present: 2 hills, 2 mountains, 2 goody huts, 3 barbarian camps, source of Iron, source of Horses, 2 sources of 1 luxury resource. For each island, the luxury is different. Each island is also surrounded by three Fish and two Whales, no other bonus resources there.
Also, there are 4 even smaller islands on the map, each with a little goodie... see if you get there.
And, why is the the map named like it is: middle of the map is occupied by a huge continent, mostly Grassland, but it has all kinds of terrain on it, many bonus squares, plentiful strategic and luxury resources. Some parts of the continent are very rich.
Obviously, the Lighthouse is your priority, but there's still Ocean on the map to cross. Astronomy is also your priority, I guess. The starting island is enough to support a living, and enough to get you on your feet. However, the last civ to get on the mainland is at a disadvantage.
Note that in SP games, the AI might have a bit of the advantage, but then again, maybe not .
And I've just gotten a word from Firaxis that the map will be included in PtW.
