How the Heck do i add Cities onto a map?

i've looked for about 10 minutes, so i decided to ask here while i contine to look?

Press Space, select a civ or player and click on the city icon in the toolbar.

then click on the map

Or go to the menu that says "Map" then go down to "Set Active Player". Pick one of the civs (middle row), not either of the other ones.

Basically, you have to set which civ you want to place units/cities for before it allows you to do anything. Then two buttons become un-greyed, and you can place stuff. Don't worry, took me about 10 minutes to figure the thing out too (Times like these I wish there was better documentation ).
