how to cancel treaties

when you sign a treaty, you will have to wait 20 turns before u can cancel it. but how can you know how many more turns were left. do you always have to wait for the ai to bring up the treaty. sometimes they never bring up the treaty, how can you cancel it yourself?

You can see how many turns to go for a treaty, and also cancel it, by contacting the civ in question and going to the deal screen. At the bottom of the middle box is a link that says "Active"...

btw - with the new patch there's a preference you can toggle on/off. If you toggle it on, deals always expire after 20 turns and you can either just leave it ended or renegotiate it (you get a pop-up)
