  • 1.29F Resource approach

Hello, my name is Willem and I'm a resource junkie. I thought I was cured when Firaxis allowed me to have at least 36 resources showing on the map at once. Maybe more, but I couldn't bring myself to plunge deeper, I just didn't have the courage.

But now they've gone and increased the maximum appearance ratio to 900, a three-fold increase! And they've lifted the restrictions on having more than 8 Luxuries! Or so they say. How am I to resist? I just want to change the values of everything, make resources rain down from the skies!

But my guilt forces me to compromise, I can't make it that easy! And in the midst of my feverish conflict, I come up with the key. Make them disappear much faster, and allow Luxuries to disappear as well!

How will my empire fare when it suddenly loses it's Silk resource. But wait! A Wine resource has just appeared, not two squares from my border. Crisis averted!

Well, now we can really think of alternative uses of resources.

I have got two major ideas - the Shrine and the Alien Artifact.

The Shrine would become visible with Monoteism and allow you to build certain religious units and structures. Also, a city with a Shrine in its radius would be able to build the "Sacred City" small wonder, which would be very beneficial.

The Alien Artifact would be very uncommon, and visible very late in the game. It would allow really amazing stuff.

In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

Yes, I've already seen them. In fact I'm using a few of the icons in my own game.

Does anyone what numbers are so only one
resource show. To make it one of a kind sort of speak.
This could be very handy for sme mods IMO.
Don't even have to call it a resource btw.Could be Stonehenge or something

Firaxis should allow a victory condition of having the monopoly on a resource. This would be like capture the flag(s).

Try 10. The help mentions that an appearance ratio of 160 will mean 2 resources each, for 8 civs. So an increase of 10 means one resource. I'm not sure though how it would work having a number that low.

PS Hey Slax, we're from the same place.

Good. The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Alright, finally someone who catches on to my feeble excuse of a sense of humour!

At least I don't clutter up my nice landscape, compliments of Sn00py, with Candy Canes. What the hell is that supposed to represent? The Sugar Plum Fairy so someone can build a Dentist office and have a demographic for the whitest teeth?

What!!?? What does that mean??!! Sorry, I'll be calling my therapist soon!

Why would you only want one resource to show? It means you would never have extra to trade.

Just that would make them very valuable - almost like a Wonder of the World! Of course they shouldn't have to be too decisive.

You might give them 10 golds or something.
maybe to represent tourism or something to that extend
Even if say so myself: good idea
gonna try that in my next game

squeze truck's Hallowed Ground mod makes an interesting use of resources, where every unique unit requires a certain resource which can only be found in the capital of the possessing civ.

How does he ensure that the resource appears only in the capitol?

Or it could be the basis for a one of a kind Wonder. Kind of like the Iron Works, that doesn't always get built in every game.
