My computer locks up part way through the introductory .bic file display. I checked out the Infogrames support website and found my problem:
After I start the game, I Get a black screen and the game locks up.
OR
The Infogrames Intro Movie comes up, then the system locks.
Your computer system is having problems with Playback of BINK video files. To resolve this issue, Make sure that the following items are up to date.

I've tried all of that and a few more things that weren't listed as well. I have an Nvida GForce 2, but my problems actually started when I changed my motherboard and CPU. Everything was fine (although slow) on my old Pentium III 500 MHZ chip, but it's no go now.
If I hit escape just after the video starts, I can usually get it to abort the video and jump to the opening choices screen (start new game, load game, etc). Sometimes I'm not quite fast enough and I have to reboot.
I've now given up trying to fix the problem and I just want to avoid it.
Is there any way that I can get Civ III to start up and skip through those intro videos and just get the opening choices screen?
