  • Stealth Bomber with unlimited range

    How can you make an air unit with unlimited range? I tried making the stealth bomber with unlimited range, but it wouldn't work. So I put the bomber as a land unit (like the ICBM), but when it attacks, it doesn't have the "fly by" attack animation like an air unit.

    So my question is... how can you make an air unit with unlimited range, and with all the correct attack abilities and animations?

      You could cheat and make it a ground unit with unlimited range. It could never be intercepted then, but it is a Stealth after all.

        I did the same thing. Got all the way to the modern ages and saw that "unlimited range" didn't work. If they don't want bombers to u.r. that's one thing, but why cap the max range at 8? On a huge map 8 is almost worthless.

          Especially for a Stealth Bomber. I read some specs that said it has a range of 6000 miles. A movement of 8 hardly does it justice.

            But that involves refueling (which isn't implimented in Civ).
            However, that's beyond the scope, so I would agree that the B2's range is nearly infinite.

              wouldn't it be great to have a tech or a small wonder called 'in-air-refuelling' which would allow airplanes and bombers to have unlimited.

              after all, this does exist in reality (i believe having read that the B52s started in US territory, flew all the way to the middle east, bombed, and flew back again).

              it would need a checkbox called 'allow unlimited bombing range'.

              how about to add that in the next civ3-patch? where should i post this request?

                Chances are it will be allowed in the new 'real' scenario editor.

                  yep, but the scenario editor probably won't allow adding of such flags and options. or do you think it will allow some kind of scripting?

                  pseudo-code:
                  if (civA.discoveres(inAirRefuelling)) {
                  civA.stealthBomber.setRange(9999);
                  }

                  or something like that... well... that would be wonderful

                    No go, sorry. During the last chat with Firaxis, Jeff (or Mike? I don't remember) said that there would be no scripting and no events. So in other words, we can't do anything unless they add it.

                      Interesting idea, but what would the point of it be? I suppose it would be cool if there was a refueling plane maybe, but a lot of those kinds of things probably won't be in any version of Civ III.

                        Actually Trip, judging from the way I read the Chat Log, Firaxis still holds to the view that they want to include "event scripting" but not a specific "Scripting language" (as they believe it is merely a tool for adding new bugs!) I know this is splitting hairs, but I believe that the example posted below might well be within the capabilities of an events editor! I guess we won't know exactly what they are getting at UNTIL PtW comes out in October!!

                          By the sounds of it, all that will be out with the next patch. I think it was Jeff who mentioned that they want to have the scenario tools in place before PtW is available, in order to allow people to be fully acquainted with the possibilities.

                            You're absolutely right, Willem. I wasn't sure, though, if they were going to give us the COMPLETE events editor until they released PtW. Though I admit that I'm less certain of this!

                              that would be great
                              allies declare war on germany as soon as it attacks, USA does NOT enter war until -let's say- japan triggers it (uhm... make pearl harbor a honey pot so the japs are tempted to do so... etc

                              i can think of hundreds of possible scenarios... some reality based ones, some just imaginative

                              [sorry, i'm thrilled by the idea ]
