  • Patch Problems

I recently installed the new patch 1.21 on my system and now my game doesn't function at all. I tried to run the game after installing the patch but it kept telling me to insert the civilization cd even though it was sitting in the drive. Then I unistalled everything to try to start over and things got worse. I re-inserted the cd after unistalling and then it said I still had the game instaleld and when I went to re-install the game it told me it had to delete some file and then it never does and now wont even install itself. I re-started the computer and tried everything over again. Still doesn't work. I am running Windows XP if that helps. Can anyone tell me what my problem is?

Locate the hidden folder "InstallShield InstallationInformation" (or something like that) in your programfiles directory. Rename it to something elke (add .bak or something.)

Now you can reinstall. Then do the reinstallations and when done copy the new folders in the new "InstallShield InstallationInformation" directory over the ones with the same name in the old. Delete the new directory and name back the old one.

      Patch Problems

I re-installed the game perfectly but then when I tried to re-patch it again I had problems. Is the 1.21 Patch XP compatible? The Multi-Tool doesn't work without this patch, how can I add new units without the Multi_Tool?

I use the patch on XP perfectly. Did you install the patch before restoring the folder names?

          Patch

No. I checked the Civ 3 Official support and they say it could be related to a problem with the burn protection and provide a link where I can e-mail them for a working patch so I think I will do that.

If you have multiple CD drives you could try installing from the other drive. Some drives have a real problem with SafeDisk II. Most DVD drives seem to work. Some CD burners don't.

Also there may be a firmware upgrade for the CD drive you are using if its not a generic drive. Burners in particular get firmware updates.
