How can I tell how close in completing a small or great wonder, my enemies are? Is there somewhere that says "Russia will get Hero Epic in 3 more turns". I'm trying to find out because I seem to be losing Wonders to Civs just 1 or 2 more turns b4 I was ready to complete them. If there was someway that I knew, there may have been some things I could have done to up shield production or whatever, as to not lose the race to the Wonder...

the F7 key tells you what wonders are being built and where, but not how long they will take. To do that, use your embassy to investigate the city in question

also , if you haven't thought of it , you can de-forest any tile . even if not being worked . this sends the shields back to a city , hopefully the city that's building the Wonder .

Quit hoping. The shields will just get wasted. Lumberjacking will not help a Wonder. It will help standard city improvements but not Great or Small Wonders. Disbanding units in the city won't help either.

The best way to speed up wonder building is to move in workers and join them to the city and to mine as much as you can without starving out the city. Sometimes its a good idea to accept a loss of food for a while as long you don't get down to losing population.

thanks, guys! these tips were very helpful. i didn't know lumberjacking wouldn't help a wonder, or how to investigate the production of wonders in other civs.

another pretty obvious tip regarding wonder building is to make sure all your mines have RRs on them so they get the extra shield. as soon as you get RRs, it would be a good idea to do this in any high-production city that builds your wonders.

Mantranet, you might know this trick already, but this strategy works most of the times:
Start building a palace (or some other high cost building) in a high production city and then switch to the wonder as soon as it's available. The wonder could be 2/3 finished by that time.

If your palace is finished before you get the wonder tech or some other civ is faster, bad luck...

The AI building a wonder 1 or 2 turns before me is a pet peeve of mine. The AI knows when you'll finish yours. Along with the palace "cheat" I try to keep a small wonder "in my pocket" you'll still lose some shields but it wont be a huge waste to try for a wonder.

It also won't help when building a new Palace.

Your best bet of making sure you get a Wonder is to battle for Leaders. This also makes it more difficult for the AI to get the wonder.
